Two students received scholarships for the 2009 -2010 school year.
The winner of the inaugural Myrtle Moriarity $1000 scholarship is 6th grader, Jordan Vanmelkebeke, daughter of Jan Padilla and Rodney VanMelkebeke. This scholarship is offered in memory of Myrtle Moriarity, who had a lifelong relationship with Visitation Catholic School, and who was a supporter of Catholic Education.
The scholarship is available for one incoming 5th or 6th grade each fall. The theme this year was based on stewardship model being implemented at St. Mary's Catholic Church.
Eighth grader McKenzie Hoogerwerf won the second annual Alfred W. Rashid full tuition scholarship. The special scholarship is being offered in memory of Alfred W. Rashid, who had a life-long relationship with St. Mary's and Visitation Catholic School.
The scholarship is available for one incoming 8th grader each fall. The winner must ba a student of character who lives his or her faith, is honest, trustworthy, hardworking, and has integrity.
McKenzie is the daughter of Jeff and Lisa Hoogerwerf of Neponset.
